Volunteer

Great Dane Care exists to re-home and rescue Great Danes and can only do so with the help of our volunteers.

The Great Danes come to us for various reasons including changes in people’s finances, health and breakdowns in relationships. If proper information is not provided when obtaining a dog, a lack of knowledge often leads to behavioural and health issues in this breed. Many of the dogs come into us without proper training or socialisation and we need volunteers with enough time and patience to win the dog’s trust and help regain their confidence in humans.

While this might not be for everyone, there are plenty of other opportunities to help with the upkeep of the charity. We’re always in need of fundraising as in the past few years the average cost of re-homing a Great Dane has risen to an estimated £500 +, while the average donation for re-homing a dog is usually in the region of £160 – £200.

Application Process

From dog-walking to fund-raising, if you have a skill or talent, we'll bet we need it, so please let us know so that we can begin the application process. With such a large breed, you need to be physically fit to handle them with prior giant breed experience. For ideas and information on possible activities to help us raise money to help the dogs in our care, please visit the fundraising page.
